ANTOINE DE VILLIERS

PAINTING

Antoine de Villiers explores the emotional complexities of the human subject. She values the sincerity of the moment more than the reality in which her figures exist. Antoine has a lifelong obsession with the human form but doesn’t think of her figures as ‘nudes’ but rather vulnerable, truthful and raw images without an armor or protective covering.

2020 when the Covid pandemic soared, representational work seemed unequipped to express Antoine’s thoughts, and her small abstract series were born - each piece the sincerest expression of her state of mind as she rode waves of turmoil and joy. These works became meditative and still remain an integral part of her daily practice.

Antoine is a veteran artist of over 70 exhibitions across the globe. She has lived on 4 continents, including India, where she taught art to marginalized women and children living in brothels and slums. Her work has received numerous awards, including best figurative artist by the Richmond Art Museum, IN, and best Solo Artist by Eric Smith at the New York Art Expo.
