SIBEL ALPASLAN

CERAMICS

Sibel Alpaslan is a ceramic artist living and working in Savannah, GA. She has been studying and making ceramics for over 25 years, beginning with her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Marmara in Istanbul, Turkey, and then during 10 years of owning her own ceramics gallery in Kusadasi, Turkey, near the ancient Roman city of Ephesus. And now, for over 13 years,  America has been Sibel's 'New World.'

Mixing her Turkish past with new American influences is inspirational to Sibel. The beauty of nature feeds her. She is delighted by the whimsical forms that she sees in the plants and trees and enjoys the interplay between the organic and the geometric. She strives to bring these qualities to her work.

Sibel has participated in many art exhibitions in Turkey and the United States. Her work was shown in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. For over 10 years, she has been a member of the prestigious League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, where she was also awarded the ‘Best Ceramic Artist’ award in 2014.

Her work is hand thrown, hand built, hand painted, and Cone 6 oxidation fired. She uses stoneware and porcelain and strives to make each piece a one-of-a-kind creation.
