David, a native of Miami, Florida, received a Master of Fine Arts in

Photography at the University of Florida in 1974, where he studied with Jerry

Uelsmann, Todd Walker and Douglas Prince. After graduation he worked as

staff photographer for the Historic Preservation Section, Georgia Department

of Natural Resources, where he provided photographic documentation of

buildings that were being nominated to the National Register of Historic

Places. He also worked as a photographer for the Department of the Interior,

Historic American Building Survey and Historic American Engineering Survey.

In 1979 he married artist Betsy Cain and they moved to Roswell, New Mexico,

where Betsy had been awarded a year long artist-in-residence grant. During

this time he did the original photography for Tropical Deco, a book

documenting many of the Art Deco Hotels and Apartments in Miami Beach,

Florida. In 1980 they moved to Savannah, where David taught photography at

the Savannah College of Art and Design. In 1982 he started Savannah Color

Separations, Inc. providing color separations for printers and publishers. Since

then the business has expanded into high resolution digital photography and

giclée printing for local and regional artists.

For the last ten years he has also concentrated on his personal work.
