Biography

Antoine de Villiers is a South African visual artist currently residing in Savannah, GA.. Antoine has traveled /or lived in more than 20 countries gathering experiences to turn into inspiration and her work has been included in over 70 exhibitions around the globe. Antoine has received several awards including best Solo artist, New York ArtExpo and best figurative artist by the Richmond Art Museum, Indiana. 


Early in my career I was drawn to the human figure as my world came crushing down amidst my struggle with severe depression. I found exploring the complexities of human emotion freeing and used the subject of the figure as a means of expression. My figures are nude as that is the most honest and vulnerable we can be. They are usually anonymous to help empathize on the emotion captured rather than the identity of the subject.

Through the years I’ve occasionally dabbled with abstraction but never before considered to make these public. As the Covid pandemic hit, representational work was no longer equipped to express my state of mind. For months I allowed myself to get lost in a non-representational world. I experienced the works like little meditations and felt a sense of relief when they reflect my state of mind.
