SHERYL ST. GERMAIN
FIBERS
Born and raised in New Orleans, Sheryl St. Germain grew up bathed in color and jazz. She spent much of her life as a poet and lyric essayist weaving the colors and rhythms she was nurtured with into words. When she retired from directing an MFA program in creative writing, she took up quilting, soon moving from traditional quilts to art quilts, experimenting with improvisational piecing as well as dyeing, printing and painting her own fabric. She makes use of earth minerals, natural colors such as indigo, as well as other fabric dyes and paints to create intricate surface designs. She often uses words, phrases and scribbles in her cloth that honor her work as a poet.
She has published six poetry books, three essay collections, and co-edited two anthologies, for which she has received numerous awards, including two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships.
