Bio

As an Army brat, I grew up all over America, as well as in Germany and Taiwan. My husband’s career in the oil industry kept the two of us and our daughters on the move: to Libya, Texas and many other oil-related places. After our move to Hilton Head Island, and my semi-retirement from graphic design, I finally had the time to experiment with making art from the kinds of materials I’ve always loved and collected: peeling, painted boards; rusty objects, scraps of weathered posters and yellowed papers with spidery handwriting. It’s a never-ending learning experience, and never a dull one.

Artist Statement

As long as I can remember, I’ve been attracted to found objects, old papers, things that are weathered, worn, rusted and mellowed by time. Though most of them were never intended to last, somehow they’ve survived—perhaps torn or faded—yet with a patina of age and a dignity that can’t be ignored. These are the ‘colors’ that I use in my collage and assemblage pieces. My goal is to invent a new life for them in my artworks, showing my own hand as little as possible.
